BLC Energy Ltd.’s Neil Lindsay showcases Scotland’s solar future to pupils
The session formed part of an S2 science project-based learning exploring the question: “How can we, as engineers and consultants, plan for future replacements for fossil fuels in our own community?” Pupils worked in teams to calculate energy demand, research renewable technologies, and develop proposals aimed at delivering sustainable energy solutions locally.
Drawing on his experience leading solar developments across Scotland, Neil provided pupils with a real-world perspective on how renewable energy projects are planned, designed, and delivered. He spoke about the increasing role of solar power in Scotland’s energy mix, the challenges involved in scaling up infrastructure, and the importance of community-focused solutions.
Pupils then presented their ideas to Neil and other industry professionals, gaining valuable feedback informed by current industry practices. The session highlighted the direct link between classroom learning and the skills required in the rapidly evolving energy sector.
Neil Lindsay, Managing Director of BLC Energy Ltd, said: “It’s been fantastic to see the level of engagement from the pupils and how confidently they’ve approached such a complex challenge. What stood out was their ability to think practically about energy use and how renewable solutions, particularly solar, can be applied within their own communities.
At BLC Energy, we are currently delivering solar projects across Scotland and the UK, helping drive the transition to cleaner, more sustainable energy. Being able to share that experience with young people and hopefully inspire some of them to consider a future in the sector is something we are very proud of.
The energy transition isn’t something for the future; it’s happening now. Developing the skills, awareness, and ambition in young people is essential if we’re to meet that challenge.”
BLC Energy Ltd continues to expand its work in solar energy, contributing to Scotland’s net zero ambitions while actively engaging with schools and communities to support education and future workforce development.
