BLC Energy celebrates two years in partnership with Octopus Renewables Infrastructure Trust

6 June 2025

BLC Energy (BLCe) is celebrating two successful years in partnership with Octopus Renewables Infrastructure Trust (ORIT), a diversified renewables infrastructure company that is part of the Octopus Energy Group. To mark the anniversary, the ORIT team visited several project sites and toured BLCe’s new office.

Following an initial commitment from ORIT of £2 million in July 2023 and a further £1.5 million earlier this year, the partnership has made significant headway towards delivering a 500MW pipeline of solar and co-located storage projects across the UK.

Five of the projects currently under development are spread across Scotland, in Perthshire, Angus, Fife and West Lothian with a combined installed capacity of approximately 395MW. To date, 200MW of Scottish projects have already been submitted into planning, with a further 200MW expected to be submitted by the end of 2025. This pipeline of large-scale solar and co-located energy storage projects is key in helping to meet the Scottish Government’s ambitious solar deployment targets.

ORIT, an SFDR Article 9 Impact Fund, has been instrumental in helping BLCe navigate an increasingly competitive market and in the delivery of solar PV and co-located battery storage solutions at scale across Scotland.

Neil Lindsay, BLCe’s Managing Director, commented on the partnership with ORIT:

“We are pleased to mark two years in partnership with ORIT with visits to sites in Perthshire, West Lothian, and Fife, and a tour of our new office in Aberuthven.

“The collaboration with ORIT has proved pivotal for BLC Energy as we continue to scale up solar development across the UK in support of the clean energy transition.

“We look forward to continuing our work with ORIT to raise the standard for renewable developments across both Scotland and England, which places community engagement, long-term environmental enhancement and community benefit at its core.”

David Bird, co-fund manager of Octopus Renewables Infrastructure Trust (ORIT), said:

“With a net-zero target for 2045, the need for solar and battery energy storage developments in Scotland has never been greater. ORIT is supercharging this transition with vital investment in key projects.

“We are delighted to be celebrating two years in partnership with the highly experienced, specialised team at BLC Energy to deliver clean, affordable, secure energy for decades to come.”
